Bogus Tarot Reader/Psychic Jobs
The Set-Up: Earn big money working from home doing readings via a pay-per-call physic service. You will be supplied with scripts, log into a phone system and begin taking calls from your home. Most ads claim to pay between $9.00 and $11.00 per hour.
The Scam: The basic scheme of this enterprise is to get callers to stay on the line for as long as possible, even if their concerns did not warrant an extended conversation. Employers usually demand that the readers get the full name and address of callers so the company can send them advertising and other junk mail or sell their lists. Other scams involve requiring new hires to spend enormous amounts on special tarot cards, training books or personal 900 phone lines. Read more about 900 scams here.
The Cold Hard Truth: Unfortunately, most homeworkers that try this type of job become disillusioned very quickly. Many employers that we’ve researched require that Tarot Readers or Psychics keep callers on the line at least 20 minutes before they can be paid. Since the average call is only 3 to 5 minutes, this can be almost impossible. Others will only pay for address capture, which can also be difficult since most callers prefer to stay anonymous. Furthermore, you will only be paid for your time spent on the telephone, not the time you spend sitting around waiting for the phone to ring.
With some companies, even if you work the required 10-20 hour per week minimum, you will not be paid if you did not keep callers on the line an average of 20 minutes. Other employers will offer .1 or .2 cents per minutes if you do not maintain the 20 minute average. Therefore, if the average call last 3-4 minutes, you’ll be earning .8 cents per call at the most!! Certainly not worth your time and effort.
