Work at home Websites

The Set Up

You find a really great work at home website that offers access to free jobs, either via email or online. There are no fees and you are told that they do not list scams or business opportunities. Sounds great.

The Scam

Unfortunately, there are a variety of scams perpetrated by these sites. Many do offer free job opportunities, however once you apply you realize that the company did not post the job, the address is old or the job is no longer available. Other times, you will find yourself bombarded with offers from scammers and MLMs because the webmaster has sold your email address to a mailing list. In the case of SOHO Jobs, many (not all) of the employers listed in our newsletter have signed a contract, in exchange for free personnel services, to consider only SOHO Jobs subscribers. Therefore, when these jobs turn up on free work@home web sites the employers will turn down any applicants not affiliated with us.

The Bait and Switch

Another type of scam present on free work at home websites involves referring job seekers to home based opportunities that require an application fee to apply. The work@home site editors will tell you that they fully endorse and recommend this opportunity and that it is safe and a good idea to pay the fee if you want to be hired. What they don’t tell you is that they, in fact, own and operate the opportunity which requires the application fee and never plan to hire any homeworkers.

A different example of this “bait and switch” involves a website that many SOHO’ers have complained about:. In this case, you might come across jobs listed on a free work at home web site that require you to pay a fee to a membership based site before you can be hired. Of course, no one we’ve come across has ever been hired under this arrangement.

Cold Hard Truth

Most of the time, these websites are simply pilfering the jobs from other, reputable sites and posting the opportunities long after the jobs have been filled. Other times, you will discover that many of the jobs listed are actually ads for scammers and fee based opportunities. There are free work-at-home websites that are worth your time and efforts. Try http://www.homeworkersnet.com which offers a free jobs mailing list, scam information and home business ideas.
