SCRAM SCAMS

Bogus TV Infomercials

The Set-Up:

Late one night when watching the tube, you see an Infomercial describing a guaranteed "30 Minute Money Making System." It sounds great. For only $40 bucks you'll get help that will get you started with your own online business. Sounds good, and since its on TV, it must be on the up-and-up, right?

The Scam:

Wrong. The "Money Making System" simply includes a few manuals and guidebooks that explain how the Internet works, offers business ideas and provides redundant information regarding web sites and search engines. Not a scam, but certainly not worth your $40 investment.

But, the ploy does not end there. In a few weeks, you'll receive a phone call from a "caring and concerned" representative from the infomercial company who just wants to check in to see how your new business is going. Of course, your new business is going nowhere because the manuals they sent you were completely useless. The representative tells you that, since you are having problems, you should really consider the "gold" plan, which will provide you with a web site, web site hosting, advertising, search engine registration and all sorts of other provisions. You are told that it will ONLY cost you $5,000 but you'll be making much more than that within a month, so there is no need to be concerned about the huge cash outlay.

The Cold Hard Truth:

You should be aware that if you pay the additional $5,000 you'll be provided with services that you could of gotten completely free of charge from the Internet. When you try to get a refund, you find out that you were recorded "accepting and authorizing" the charge on your credit card, so you are legally bound to pay-up. Don't fall for these exaggerated infomercials that barely offer more services than Bigstep.com! And, Bigstep offers them FREE of charge!
