SCRAM SCAMS

Bogus Web Portal/Search Engines

The Set-Up:

If you're using the Web for your job search, don't rely on portals to screen the jobs for you. Just because a site is well-designed, convincing and popular does not mean that all the jobs listed on them are genuine. Unlike SOHO Jobs, many Web sites do not check out every job advertisement that comes their way. (Neither do well-established print magazines and newspapers for that matter). Many of you have already learned to be leery of any job posted on Yahoo! Classifieds, but there are a few others you should know about:

The Scam:

Home-Based Working Moms, which one SOHO’er used in her job hunt, links to dozens of unbelievable fee-based opportunities, bogus deals and schemes. Another SOHO’er was bombarded by scams after registering with ICPlanet.com. Other scam advertisers include eWork Exchange, and Outsource2000.  You should also use caution when visiting free work at home search services like HomeJobsOnline who are not always careful when screening new job postings. While these websites are not scams, and some offer decent services, you must still use caution when applying to jobs found on their sites because fees and scams may be involved.

The Cold Hard Truth:

Just because the portal is free and legitimate, does not always mean that the job listings are free and legitimate. The same rules apply. If you are asked to pay a registration fee, an application fee or any other type of up-front investment for a typing, data entry or envelope stuffing job, keep your money and continue your job search.

The Light At The End Of The Tunnel:

SOHO Jobs does not tolerate scams, tricks, misleading opportunities or any other solicitations made by the pond scum who are only after your money and not your skills. Contact our Scram Scams! division before sending any fees to a work-at-home opportunity. If the company is legit, we will let you know. If not, we will feature them in our weekly newsletter for all subscribers to see and avoid.
